The DMK, the ADMK are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Shanmuga Sundaram. K from DMK won the seat with a margin of 175,883 votes. Shanmuga Sundaram. K was polled 554,230 votes with a vote share of 51.00 % and defeated Mahendran. C from ADMK who got 378,347 votes (34.97 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Mahendran.c from AIADMK won the seat and was polled 417,092 votes with a vote share of 41.18%. BJP candidate Eswaran.e.r. got 276,118 votes (27.27 %) and was the runner-up.Mahendran.c defeated Eswaran.e.r. by a margin of 140,974 votes.
