The DMK, the PMK are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Dayanidhi Maran from DMK won the seat with a margin of 301,520 votes. Dayanidhi Maran was polled 448,911 votes with a vote share of 57.00 % and defeated Sam Paul. S.r. from PMK who got 147,391 votes (18.76 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, S.r. Vijayakumar from AIADMK won the seat and was polled 333,296 votes with a vote share of 40.88%. DMK candidate Dayanidhi Maran got 287,455 votes (35.26 %) and was the runner-up.S.r. Vijayakumar defeated Dayanidhi Maran by a margin of 45,841 votes.
