The Arakkonam seat comprises 6 Assembly segments including Tiruttani, Arakkonam, Sholingur, Katpadi, Ranipet, Arcot. The constituency is a GENERAL seat. The DMK, the PMK are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, S. Jagathrakshakan from DMK won the seat with a margin of 328,956 votes. S. Jagathrakshakan was polled 672,190 votes with a vote share of 57.00 % and defeated A.k. Moorthy from PMK who got 343,234 votes (29.09 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Hari, G. from AIADMK won the seat and was polled 493,534 votes with a vote share of 45.29%. DMK candidate Elango, N.r got 252,768 votes (23.19 %) and was the runner-up.Hari, G. defeated Elango, N.r by a margin of 240,766 votes.
Engineer Rashid has been a two-time MLA from Langate Assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He won the election in 2008 and 2014. Rashid unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha polls from Baramulla in 2014 and 2019. After the revocation of Article 370, J-K became a Union Territory with Legislative Assembly.
