The Jhanjharpur seat comprises 6 Assembly segments including Khajauli, Babubarhi, Rajnagar(sc), Jhanjharpur, Phulparas, Laukaha. The constituency is a GENERAL seat. The JD(U), the RJD are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Ramprit Mandal from JD(U) won the seat with a margin of 322,951 votes. Ramprit Mandal was polled 602,391 votes with a vote share of 57.00 % and defeated Gulab Yadav from RJD who got 279,440 votes (26.30 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Birendra Kumar Chaudhary from BJP won the seat and was polled 335,481 votes with a vote share of 35.64%. RJD candidate Mangani Lal Mandal got 280,073 votes (29.75 %) and was the runner-up.Birendra Kumar Chaudhary defeated Mangani Lal Mandal by a margin of 55,408 votes.
