The BJP, the RJD are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Gopal Jee Thakur from BJP won the seat with a margin of 267,979 votes. Gopal Jee Thakur was polled 586,668 votes with a vote share of 61.00 % and defeated Abdul Bari Siddiqui from RJD who got 318,689 votes (33.01 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Kirti Azad from BJP won the seat and was polled 314,949 votes with a vote share of 37.98%. RJD candidate Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi got 279,906 votes (33.75 %) and was the runner-up.Kirti Azad defeated Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi by a margin of 35,043 votes.
