The INC, the DMDK are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Manickam Tagore, B. from INC won the seat with a margin of 154,554 votes. Manickam Tagore, B. was polled 470,883 votes with a vote share of 44.00 % and defeated Alagarsamy, R. from DMDK who got 316,329 votes (29.40 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Radhakrishnan T from AIADMK won the seat and was polled 406,694 votes with a vote share of 40.20%. MDMK candidate Vaiko got 261,143 votes (25.81 %) and was the runner-up.Radhakrishnan T defeated Vaiko by a margin of 145,551 votes.
