The JD(U), the RJD are the main parties in the constituency. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Dinesh Chandra Yadav from JD(U) won the seat with a margin of 301,527 votes. Dinesh Chandra Yadav was polled 624,334 votes with a vote share of 54.00 % and defeated Sharad Yadav from RJD who got 322,807 votes (28.13 %). In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Rajesh Ranjan @ Pappu Yadav from RJD won the seat and was polled 368,937 votes with a vote share of 35.65%. JD(U) candidate Sharad Yadav got 312,728 votes (30.22 %) and was the runner-up.Rajesh Ranjan @ Pappu Yadav defeated Sharad Yadav by a margin of 56,209 votes.
