India Army is training its soldiers and officers for high altitude operations at Army's High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg. The training includes skiing techniques to patrol effectively.
As part of defence cooperation, soldiers from India and the United States participated in a joint military exercise 'Yudh Abhyas 20.' The joint exercise started from February 08 and will go on to February 20 at the Mahajan Field Firing Range (MFFR) in Rajasthan.

"2020 was a unique year with twin challenges of the COVID pandemic and the belligerence on the northern borders. The events of the past year have brought to the fore the vulnerability of global supply chains, underscoring the need for self-reliance. Today self-reliance in Defence has become a strategic necessity. It is imperative for us to invest in building long term indigenous capabilities for application across the entire spectrum of conflict," said the Army Chief. He also said, "Considering the quick pace of Defence modernisation being undertaken by our adversaries, we are lagging behind slightly. Continuous and heavy dependence of Indian armed forces on equipment of foreign origin needs to be addressed through indigenous capability development."
Indian Army saved a girl from drowning in Jammu and Kashmir's Chenab River. The incident took place in Akhnoor district of J-K. Explaining the incident, the girl said that she was clicking pictures at the Chenab River when her foot slipped. Thanking the Army, she said, "I had gone to visit the Chenab River, and while taking pictures my foot slipped and I tripped inside the river. Army saved me and I am thankful to them. May god bless them with long age because I was able to successfully reach home alive." Victim's family also thanked the Army for safely rescuing their daughter. "I am thankful to the Army that they saved my daughter and took her to the hospital. I am thankful to god and the Army personnel," said victim's father.
