After the Modi government came to power, he said the government reviewed 406 stalled road projects worth Rs 3.85 lakh crore and restarted them. The restarting of these projects saved banks from the non-performing asset (NPA) of about Rs 3 lakh crore.

The strategic 900 kilometre-long Chardham project worth Rs 12,000 crore aims to widen roads and provide all-weather connectivity to four holy places -- Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath -- in Uttarakhand.

In a series of tweets, the Road Transport and Highways Minister also said he has sanctioned the widening and strengthening work of NH-334A to two lanes with a budget of Rs 227.06 crore in Uttar Pradesh.

Built at a cost of Rs 42,000 crore, the Expressway starts from Chand Sarai village in Lucknow. It will pass through Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur.

"The problem is there is China which has fully developed its infrastructure, so tomorrow if we have to transport big trucks, machinery then it would need at least 10-metre wide roads otherwise we wouldn't be able to do it," Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said.

During the event, the Prime Minister will also dedicate over 223 km of completed & upgraded road projects, constructed with an estimated cost of over Rs 1180 crore at different NHs for boosting connectivity to Pandharpur. The event will take place via video conferencing, it said.
