More than 2,000 passengers have booked tickets in the first IRCTC-run train, Tejas Express, from Lucknow to New Delhi and back, within two days of the opening of counters, officials said on Sunday.
The trial run of India's first private train, Tejas Express started on Friday from Lucknow junction station at 6:50 am. IRCTC officials flagged off the first trial run of the Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, which operated with the speed of 110 kmph.

The Delhi-Lucknow and Mumbai-Ahmedabad Tejas Express trains will be the first trains to be run by the IRCTC, a railway subsidiary, becoming test cases for Indian Railways' move to hand over certain trains to private operators.

Indian Railways has set the ball rolling by giving the operations of the Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express to private players. Railways is going ahead with its 100-day agenda of handing over operations of two of its trains to the private sector, despite protests from its unions.
Hailing Tejas as “very impressive”, Ng said, “This is the reason why our air force trains with your air force. Pilots are superb, planes are pretty good.”
In an editorial in party mouthpiece `Saamana', Sena said that the railways, which has seen a slew of mishaps in the last few weeks, was playing with the lives of people.

At least 26 people aboard the premium train were taken ill on Sunday after consuming food served by the IRCTC.
The catering of Tejas Express is managed by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The train was on its way from Goa's Karmali to Mumbai's Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus.
