Sri Lanka is set to host India for the three T20Is and ODIs from July 27. The hosts had named the squad only on July 23 (Tuesday) and within 36 hours, chief selector Upul Tharanga has confirmed that the fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera will not play.

IPL 2024: Dushmantha Chameera has been part of the three IPL franchises before and will play for two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming season of the tournament. Chameera comes in for England pacer Gus Atkinson.

The right-arm speedster Lahiru Kumara joins the likes of captain Dasun Shanaka and pacer Matheesha Pathirana on the sidelines as Sri Lanka lose a bulk of their pace attack to injuries ahead of the upcoming crucial game against Afghanistan in Pune on Monday.

"The Sri Lanka Cricket Selectors took this decision in order to ensure that the team has ready replacements in place to face contingencies, such as an injury to an existing squad member. Accordingly, Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera will join the team tomorrow," SLC statement said.

Wanindu Hasaranga is set to miss the group-stage matches while Dushmantha Chameera is likely to miss the entire tournament due to a shoulder injury that occurred in the LPL 2023.

The 30-year-old Chameera has been replaced by Nuwan Thushara
