On the auspicious day of Diwali 2017, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor has extended his wishes for the festive season in the most special manner. Shahid, who will be seen next in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, has announced the name of his next film on the festive day of Diwali. In Padmavati, he will share screen space with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. Shahid is teaming up with Toilet: Ek Prem Katha director Shree Narayan Singh for his next film titled Batti Gul Meter Chalu.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Shahid Kapoor shared a video with a caption that read, “Let's celebrate the festival of light with the hope that soon electricity will be a right and not a privilege for all. ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu”. Watch the trending video right here.
As soon as Shahid Kapoor’s next was announced, rumours of the female lead started doing the rounds. Latest buzz has it that Katrina Kaif may star opposite the Rangoon actor in the film. "The creative team loved the fresh pairing of Shahid and Katrina. She is in Los Angeles to apparently chart out her debut in Hollywood. Once she returns, she is expected to sign on the dotted line after finalising the dates and remuneration," a source was quoted as saying to Mid-day.
The filmmaker Shree Narayan Singh was all praise for Shahid. “With films like Kaminey, Jab We Met, Haider and Udta Punjab, Shahid Kapoor has definitely proved his mettle as an actor. Having said that, his star presence is undeniable and I look forward to working with him”, the director as quoted as saying to PTI.
On releasing the film’s teaser on Diwali, Mr Singh said, “The subject of the film is very relevant to our times. Diwali makes it just the right occasion for us to bring light on a subject that needs to be discussed. We look forward to making a film that is both commercially entertaining and encourages a social conversation”.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu is a light-hearted social drama, and since it is based on the issue of astronomical electricity bills that citizens face, the makers thought it was ideal to launch the title and teaser on the festival of lights, a press release issued read.
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming film Padmavati is all set to hit the cinemas on December 1.
