Patna: In a recent video that went viral, Ruby Rai, the 17-year-old girl who topped Bihar’s Class XII exams in the Arts stream, says political science teaches cooking.
The girl, who got the highest marks in Political Science, could not even correctly pronounce the name of the subject and called it ‘Prodigal Science’.
It is important to mention here that she secured 444 marks (90 per cent) out of 500 in the Class XII exams, the result of which was declared on May 28.
Another science topper from the intermediate college was not able to explain the link between and water and H2O.
The ‘toppers’ were interviewed by local channels soon after the declaration of class X and XII results of the Bihar Board.
Coincidentally, both toppers are students of Bishun Rai College, Bhagwanpur in Vaishali district. The institution was in controversies last year after complaints of large-scale irregularities were filed against it.
With the video having gone viral and attracted a lot of flak for the state of affairs in the state, an embarrassed government has now been forced to order re-examination of the fourteen students who topped the Bihar board’s class XII exams. The exams will be held within the next week.
Education minister Ashok Choudhary admitted lapses on the part of the state examination board and said that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
“It is apparent that the some mafia organise everything for the students. We have ordered an inquiry and strict action will be taken against those found guilty. We made a lot of effort to reverse the state’s image after viral cheating videos last year and we cannot allow anyone to play with the state’s image,” Choudhary told Hindustan Times.
“There seems to be serious administrative lapse. We have been demanding that the board should have a list of qualified evaluators, but they try to do things in a hurry through just anyone and we suspect non-teachers may have also go into evaluation work,” he further added.
In the recently announced results of Bihar board’s Class X and XII, more than half (53.4 per cent) of the students failed in matriculation and about 33 per cent students failed in the intermediate.
