Tharoor is serving as Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, since 2009.

"I ask you why does our prime minister wear all sorts of outlandish headgear wherever he goes around the country or around the world? Why does he always refuse to wear a Muslim skull cap?" asked Tharoor.

Tharoor was speaking during a seminar titled 'Standing up to hatred: Intolerance and violence in contemporary India'.

PM Modi’s personal energy is commendable and I laud the way he spreads the power of India across the world, Tharoor said.

Talking to India TV's Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma in his show Aap ki Adalat, Tharoor said that in past four years the difference between the ruling and the opposition parties has widened as the government has failed to reach out to rivals.

When asked what inspired Rahul to hug PM Modi in Parliament, Tharoor said, "Most probably he got the cue from Modi ji, because he hugs world leaders wherever he goes."

“When BJP Yuva Morcha workers attacked my office in Kerala, I asked whether they want to bring Taliban in Hinduism? This was distorted in media as “Hindu Taliban”, he said.

Tharoor said that though Imran Khan is a 'good man', he will move forward only to the extent his Army will permit.

Asked by Rajat Sharma whether Congress President Rahul Gandhi will be able to stop BJP from retaining power in 2019, Tharoor replied: “It is not a question of Rahul Gandhi alone. There are many leaders in the opposition."

Congress MP Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor was in news recently for his controversial 'Hindu Taliban' remark. On IndiaTV's Aap Ki Adalat show Tharoor talks about the controversy and other topics in detail.

The court has directed Tharoor to furnish a fixed deposit of Rs 2 lakh, which will be refunded after his return.

Tharoor's remarks comes close on the heels of his "Hindu Pakistan" statement that invited criticism from his political opponents.   

Gandhi, who today addressed first meeting of Congress Working Committee since he took over its chairmanship in December last year, told the party leaders that he would not hesitate to take action against anyone who makes 'wrong statements'.

"It's been 24 hours since my office has been attacked and the visuals of those who were all present are also there, but no arrest has been made," Tharoor said on Tuesday.

On July 14, a Kolkata court summoned Tharoor following a petition moved by lawyer Sumeet Chowdhury dubbing the leader's comments as "a deliberate and malicious act " that was "intended" at "outraging" religious feelings.

A Kolkata-based lawyer Sumeet Chowdhury filed a case against Tharoor for 'hurting religious sentiments' and 'insulting the Constitution'. 

The surprising thing about Tharoor's comment is  that he quoted remarks made by Veer Savarkar and Deendayal Upadhyay on Hindu Rashtra to justify his stand. 

Talking to reporters, Digivijaya Singh compared the present BJP dispensation with Zia-ul-Haq's regime in Pakistan.

Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram in the Lok Sabha, posted a YouTube link of Kishore Kumar's 'Kuch to log kahengey' song from the 1971 hit Bollywood movie 'Amar Prem' on his Twitter page.
