Mulk Box Office Collection Day 1: Taapsee Pannu, Rishi Kapoor-starrer witnesses slow start; earns Rs 1.60 crore

The Taapsee Pannu and Rishi Kapoor-starrer courtroom drama Mulk is one of the three films that released this Friday. The other two were: Fanney Khan and Karwaan. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Mulk was all about the existing prejudice people have regarding Islamic terrorism and how people brush everyone with the same brush, including the innocent Muslims. The director, who has previously helmed films like Tum Bin and Ra.One made a content-driven and highly-intriguing film which opened to mostly positive reviews on Friday. However, the box office numbers don’t resonate with the rave reviews.

Mulk Box Office Collection Day 1

According to Bollywood Hungama, Mulk managed to earns Rs 1.60 crore on its opening day. The film was expected to earn Rs 2 crore as per our calculations. However, it faired slightly less than what we expected. The other two releases, especially Fanney Khan affected the business of Mulk to some extent. However, the word of mouth is strong around the film with audience appreciating the unique subject of the film. Owing to the positive reviews, the box office numbers may rise over the weekend.

Also, Mulk is expected to fare comparatively well than the other two releases. It is a strong content-driven and a unique film loaded with the stellar ensemble cast including veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

Mulk Review

India TV rated Mulk 3 out of five stars. Our film critic Reshu Manglik wrote, “The mixed feeling of grief and anger of a family who lost their ‘terrorist’ son is depicted with no filters attached. It’s not a surprise as Anubhav Sinha belongs to a breed of filmmakers who don’t believe in sugar-coating and looking at things with rose-tinted glasses. Everything in Mulk, ranging from the streets of Banaras to the court, felt life-like.”

“All in all, Mulk is a must-watch and definitely a reality-check about something that’s happening around us more often than we admit,” she adds.
