Rajendra Singh Rathore is the present Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader is the sitting MLA from the Churu Vidhan Sabha seat. Rathore won his first election from Churu in 1990 as a Janata Dal candidate before losing two back-to-back elections in 1980 (from Bani Park) and 1985 (from Churu). He won five elections as a BJP candidate in 1993, 1998, 2003, 2013 and 2018. Rathore represented the Taranagar constituency once from 2008 to 2013. In 2008, Rathore won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Dr Chandrashekhar Baid with a margin of 17,613 votes. Rathore served as Minister of State (MoS) for Medical and Health, Medical Services (ESI) in the Bhairon Singh Shekhawat Cabinet from 1993 to 1998. He became the Cabinet Minister for Public Works Department and Parliamentary Affairs in the first Vasundhara Raje Cabinet from 2003 to 2008. He again became the Cabinet Minister for Medical and Health Services (ESI), Medical Education, Ayurveda and Indian Medical Methods in the second Raje Cabinet from 2013 to 2016. He was also the Cabinet Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Parliamentary Affairs and Election from 2016 to 2018. Rajendra Singh Rathore is contesting from Taranagar again after a long gap of 10 years in the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly Election 2023.
