Prahlad Singh Patel is the current Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Food Processing Industries in the second Narendra Modi Cabinet. He was also Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism from 2019 to 2021. He was Minister of State for Coal in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government from 1999 to 2004. Patel is a five-term Lok Sabha member representing Seoni, Balaghat and Damoh constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. Patel first entered the Lok Sabha from Seoni constituency in 1989 after defeating Congress candidate Gagri Shankar Mishra by 26,525 votes. However, he lost the 1991 Lok Sabha Election from the same constituency when he was defeated by Congress candidate Vimla Verma. In 1996, Patel defeated Verma by 64,847 votes and made a comeback. He lost again in 1998. In the 1999 Lok Sabha Election, Prahlad Singh Patel changed his seat and contested from Balaghat. He won the seat by defeating Congress candidate Vishweshwer Bhagat. In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Patel contested from the Damoh constituency and won by defeating Congress candidate Choudhary Mahendra Pratap Singh on both occasions with huge margins. Prahlad Singh Patel is contesting from the Narsingpur constituency in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election against Congress candidate Lakhan Singh Patel.
