New Delhi: E-commerce firm giant Snapdeal has tied up with automaker maker M&M for online bookings of its upcoming Scorpio facelift. This is for the first time that automobile bookings have debuted on a third-party electronic marketplace in India.

Though bookings can be done online, to complete formalities related to purchase customers will have to visit the showroom. The pact will last only for a week before the launch of SUV in India.

As per the information available on the website, customers can book Scorpio facelift online at a token amount of Rs 20,000 and delivery will be done within four to six weeks after the booking.

Scorpio is one of M&M's most profitable vehicles and has sales of 50,000 units annually. However, M&M's utility vehicle portfolio is now facing stiff competition from a whole range of new vehicles from carmakers such as Ford, Renault and Nissan.

The new Scorpio, due to be unveiled on September 25, looks to strengthen M&M's presence in the segment. Generally, automakers have relied on their dealer networks to drive sales and the M&M-Snapdeal partnership is the first of its kind in the Indian automobile sector.
