New Delhi, Aug 23 (ANI): India reported 25,072 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours. 389 deaths were also reported in the same duration taking the overall toll to 4,34,756. About 44,157 people got recovered from the corona virus in the past 24 hours.
India reported 38,353 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours on August 11. Active caseload is currently at 3,86,351, lowest in 140 days. The recovery rate is at 97.45% from the dreadful virus in the past 24 hours.

US pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 vaccine has received emergency use approval in India, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.

Whereas, other states are mulling about the necessity of the step citing the possible threat of the third wave of Covid-19.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has prohibited the religious processions during Muharram due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the circular issued by Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel on July 31, the Shia clerics have raised questions over the objectionable language used in it. They were unhappy with Muharram being repeatedly referred to as a 'festival' in the circular issued to police personnel in all districts. Police officials have also been asked to take clerics in confidence to ensure a ban on congregations.
According to the circular, DGP Mukul Goel has also urged his officers to communicate with religious leaders for spreading awareness about COVID-19 and the need to observe Muharram indoors.
The Supreme Court came down hard on the Kerala government for relaxing COVID-19 restrictions on the occasion of Bakrid in the state. The apex court observed that it was 'shocking' that the state government has given in to the demands of traders while easing lockdown norms.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday accused the opposition-ruled states of doing politics on the issue while earlier admitting that there was no death due to shortage of oxygen during second wave of Covid-19.
In a special conversation with IndiaTV Batra Hospital doctor SCL Gupta claimed that death due to shortage of oxygen did happen in Delhi. It might be because of lack of coordination between Centre-State that these deaths were not reported as they should be.
The Union health ministry has said the states have not provided any information on deaths of Covid patients in hospitals due to lack of oxygen. With a number of deaths due to oxygen shortage making headlines during the second wave, especially in Delhi, the matter drew sharp criticism from the opposition.

PM Modi will hold the meeting at 11 am on July 20. The report further stated that the leaders would be given a presentation of the Centre's COVID handling and the vaccination policy would be discussed with them.
