On Tuesday, 25 of Assam's 33 districts were hit by floods, affecting over 13.2 lakh people, besides claiming four lives. Barpeta is the worst-hit district followed by South Salmara and Nalbari. Cropland totalling 75,700 hectares have been damaged across the state.
Assam floods: The number of flood-hit people in Dhemaji, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh districts was 38,000 on Wednesday, while the swirling floodwaters entered Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Golaghat and Tinsukia districts, raising the figure to 1.89 lakh on Thursday.
Unabated rains have caused a flood-like situation in several districts of Assam. Rains have led to flooding in several low-lying areas. Brahmaputra river was flowing above its normal level while several other tributaries and stream were overflowing causing flood in catchment areas.
Several states in north India received rain on Wednesday as the Monsoon fully covered Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, even as the flood situation in Assam remained grim with one more death taking the toll to 12.
Following incessant rainfall in Assam, the water level of the Brahmaputra river is rising every hour in Guwahati. Sarat Chandra Kalita, a Central Water Commission official said, "Water level is rising by 2 cm every hour today. It has been increasing since May 16, because of rain".
A population of 5,18,623 in 691 villages in 26 revenue circles of 12 districts are currently affected by the inundation, according to a bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Agency (ASDMA).
Bihar and Assam have been reeling under heavy showers since the onset of monsoons this year. With most of the districts submerged, normal life has been thrown out of gear in both the states. The collective death toll due to floods in Bihar and Assam has touched 198. Meanwhile, heavy rains also lashed Rajasthan, which brought respite from the scorching heat in the state.
After a brief let-up in the situation, Bihar has been receiving above normal rainfall for the past couple of days and the situation worsened, they said. The toll in Bihar rose to 123 on Wednesday with the deaths of 17 people, while the deluge in Assam claimed six more lives taking the total figure to 74.
The flood situation in Assam remained grim with the toll touching 66 on Monday following the death of two more persons, as 30.55 lakh people are 18 of the state's 33 districts were affected by the deluge.
The toll climbed to 64 in Assam and 102 in Bihar, with five more casualties being reported in each of the two states since Saturday. In Bihar, 72.78 lakh people form 12 districts of the state have been hit by the calamity while in Assam 38.37 lakh people were affected in 18 of its 33 districts.
In Bihar, 66.76 lakh people from 12 districts of the state have been hit by the calamity while in Assam 48.87 lakh people were affected in 27 of its 33 districts. Of the fresh 11 deaths in Assam, five were reported from Dhubri district and three each from Barpeta and Morigaon, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said, adding 48,87,443 people in 3,705 villages are reeling under the impact of the flood.
The photograph of a Royal Bengal tiger relaxing on a bed at a house near Kaziranga national park in Assam is being widely shared on Twitter. Over 95% area of the park is submerged due to the floods displacing many animals.
With over 150 anti-poaching camps in the Kaziranga National Park affected by the Assam floods, the authorities are working round-the-clock to check poaching at the UNESCO World Heritage site, officials said.

The flood situation in Assam continued to deteriorate Saturday with one more person losing his life, taking the toll to seven, as over 14 lakh people were affected by the deluge across 25 districts of the state. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called Union Home Minister Amit Shah and briefed him about the latest flood situation in the state.
A total of 71,058 people were still reeling under the impact of the flood, as against the 96,993 people on Monday.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 96,993 people in 192 villages in five flood-hit districts.
Thirty-seven more persons perished in flood-hit Bihar, where over 1.46 crore people are still affected, while the situation in Uttar Pradesh remained alarming with 10 more deaths reported on Tuesday
