BJP's top leadership laboured hard on a compromise formula to effect a patch up between the warring sides in Karnataka as Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa made it clear that he was prepared to concede to some of the demands of dissident Reddy brothers.

The Chief Minister, whose removal has been rejected by the BJP high command, has been asked to stay put here for a day more but Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy has gone to Hyderabad for consultations with MLAs supporting him.

Reddy, who is spearheading dissidence, left suddenly for Hyderabad, where a number of MLAs supporting him were being put up in a hotel and are believed to have sent their resignations as a strategy to put pressure on the leadership.

The party leadership put up the compromise formula before Reddy under which a Coordination Committee will be set up to go into the working of its first and lone government in the south.

But it has been made clear to Reddy that dissidence should be within limits and "resignation drama" will not not be tolerated,  party sources said.

While Reddy left for Hyderabad, the Chief Minister had a series of meetings in the capital.

Yeddyurappa called on party veteran and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee after his meeting with senior BJP leaders at L K Advani's residence.

"I took his (Vajpayee's) Ashirwaadam. Whenever I was in such a situation I used to go to him and say namaskar," the Chief Minister said.

Earlier in the day, he also met senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi.

Yeddyurappa also paid a visit to Rajghat to pay respects to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Sources said this was to get some peace in this time of crisis and hectic negotiations. PTI
