Mumbai: In a pre-dawn swoop, hundreds of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Railway staff in a joint operation, demolished several hundreds slums built on railway land on Reay Road.
Slumdwellers hurriedly took out their household goods, utensils and other items, as BMC staff started demolition of the slums in right earnest.
Police had to resort to a mild lathicharge as the slumdwellers protested. Nobody has been critically injured.
Angry slumdwellers scuffled with BMC staff as the latter started to throw out their household goods and started demolishing the slums. A fire incident took place in course of the demolition.
