New Delhi: Stand up comedian Tanmay Bhat’s Snapchat video which started a truck load of controversies a few weeks ago, is in news again. But, unlike the previous times, this time the news doesn’t shout trouble for Bhat. According to media reports, the Mumbai police have decided not to register an FIR against Bhat.

The 28-year-old comedian, who is one of the co-founders of comedy cult group All India Bakchod, had made a snapchat video in which he mocked legends Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar. He received a lot of flak, from many people across the nation including renowned film celebrities, for not knowing the difference between humour and insult.

Adding more fuel to the fire was a protest by political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). An activist of the party filed a complaint against Bhat and demanded him to be arrested. But, the police have decided to not build a case on this matter.

“Prima facie, after going through the video, we have come to the conclusion that the video was meant for comedy and humour. The political party's complaint does not even attract a non-cognizable offence. We would have registered an offence immediately had Mangeshkar or Tendulkar approached us with a complaint,”

a police officer was quoted by a leading daily.

However, the officer also told the leading daily that a legal opinion by the law and judiciary department is yet to submit its report. They were asked to do it on Tuesday and the police are awaiting it.

Well, this decision will definitely bring a sigh of relief for Tanmay.
