"Encounter breaks out between security forces and terrorists in Qasba Yar area of Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir," Jammu and Kashmir police said.
The sharpshooter, Alisher a.k.a Doctor, was accused of the February 15 murder of BSP leader Kalamuddin of Khundanpur village in Azamgarh. He had also killed BJP leader Jitram Munda in Ranchi last month.
The police have also recovered incriminating materials including arms & ammunition.
An army officer and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) were critically injured during an ongoing terrorist operation in the general area of Nar Khas Forest, Mendhar Sub Division, in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
A joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information.
During the ensuing chance encounter, one terrorist was neutralized while another managed to escape.
