Irani was speaking in the Lok Sabha on the Unnao rape issue when she was interrupted by two Congress MPs who apparently got up from their seats and rushed towards the treasury benches.

A remark by Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury that "Sita is being burnt" while plans are afoot to build a Ram temple created an uproar in the House on Friday, with union minister Smriti Irani hitting back at the opposition for politicising and communalising the issue.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday removed Amethi District Magistrate Prashant Sharma, a day after a video of him "misbehaving" with the family of Vijay Kumar Singh alias Sonu Singh went viral on the social media. Arun Kumar, the Vice Chairman of Moradabad Development Authority, has been appointed as the new DM of Amethi. Sharma has been waitlisted.

This was the second controversy involving Sharma in past one week. Sharma had arrived late for a court hearing in Amethi and the judge punished hin by keeping him in custody till the evening.

The Nirbhaya Fund was announced by the Centre in 2013 after the sensational December 16, 2012 gangrape and murder case in Delhi. Its aim was to support the initiatives of the government and the NGOs working towards the safety of women.  

The government has established 85 One Stop Centres, which provide assistance to women affected by violence, across 12 states in the last 100 days and it is "proactively" working towards building one such unit in every district, WCD Minister Smriti Irani said on Friday.

Union minister Smriti Irani said on Friday that the Union government's efforts on economic front are visible and asserted that it meets various stake-holders every day to try to find solutions to emerging challenges.Speaking at a "fireside chat" event organised by FICCI Young Leaders Forum, the Textile Minister, who also holds the portfolio of woman and child development, reeled out a number of figures to stress that the government has been providing a lot of employment opportunities.

Smriti Irani, who concluded her two-day visit to her parliamentary constituency on Thursday, told the people of Amethi that in the past 100 days, she had launched 210 programmes at the cost of Rs 225 crores and a Rs 550 crore project of the railways was also on.  

The illegal infiltrators will be dealt with as per law, she asserted. "No Indian will be left out... we are dedicated towards protecting the rights of the citizens of the country," the union minister said on NRC.

 The government is committed to empowering women and securing the future of children, WCD Minister Smriti Irani said on Sunday as she listed out achievements of the Modi government in its first 100 days including freeing women from triple talaq and making law against child sexual abuse more stringent.

"KEM is the first civic hospital to have such a centre," a hospital official said.

Uttar Pradesh minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also criticised the former Congress president over his earlier remarks and said his own state alone was enough to take on Pakistan. Referring to the debate in Parliament when the government decided to abrogate the special status for Jammu and Kashmir, Irani said the people were “stunned” by the remarks by some Congress members when Home Minister Amit Shah spoke about one tricolour and one Constitution for the entire country.

In the video, Smriti Irani said: "I wanted all of you to meet Nisha Yadav... There is something special about her. She is not only a model but also that she has completed her second year of law from Rajasthan university. Third year is on and is practicing in Delhi."

Jaitley, 66, was admitted on August 9 after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has not issued any bulletin on Jaitley's health condition since August 10.
