Arpan Doshi, an Indian-origin doctor is all set to become UK’s youngest physician to start working at a hospital in North-East England. He graduated with his Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Sheffield at an age of 21 years and 335 days. He is due to start his job as a junior doctor in York next month.

Earlier, the youngest doctor in UK was 17 days older to Arpan, who now beats the record as he starts working in the country. Asking about his recently-created record, Arpan told The Sun, “"I didn't realise I was the youngest person to qualify until a friend checked on the internet. I haven t even told my parents yet but I know they will be very proud,"

Arpan schooled from a local school in Gandhinagar, Gujarat till he was 13. His whole family including him, shifted to France as his mechanical engineer father, Bharat got to work with Aix en Provence as a part of an international fusion project. He continues his schooling at an English speaking International School, though he is fluent in English, Hindi and Gujarati. He skipped a year there realising that he already knew what was being taught.

After celebrating his 17th birthday, he started applying to universities and faced many rejections. Finally, he got three offers from universities. The University of Sheffield was so impressed by the young boy that they provided him with a scholarship of 13,000 pounds. Arpan continued to get financial support from his parents, but he worked in part-time job as a lunch supervisor at a local school and in the careers service to finance his degree.

"My dream is to become a heart surgeon but it is a very competitive field. It is not really a surprise I have ended up as a doctor," said Doshi.

Earlier, the doctor who held the record of youngest doctor in UK was Rachael Faye Hill who received her medical degree from Manchester University at an age of 21 years and 352 days in 2010. Now the record has been broken by Arpan Doshi as he starts his two-year training as a junior doctor at York Teaching Hospital in August.
