Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan whose holi bashes are popular among the film fraternity will not be celebrating the festival of colour this year.

The 67-year-old who has sung some of the most popular Holi songs on screen, is mourning the death of good friend Amar Singh's brother-in-law and decided to skip the celebrations also as a mark of respect to the victims of the Pune blast.

"There was a death in the family of one of my closest friends so we won't be celebrating Holi tomorrow," Bachchan said at a function on Sunday evening.

"We do not celebrate again this year. Primarily because of the death of a close relative of our family friend Amar Singh ji, but also we do not feel comfortable in celebrating when our own have lost lives in the Pune blast recently," he had earlier written on his blog.

Talking about his famous Holi songs such as 'Rang Barase...' from the film 'Silsila', Bachchan said that this song came from his father.

"My father used to sing all these songs at the Holi when I was a child. Later, we just translated them in the film (songs)," he said.  He was interacting with his fans at a function organised by Enlightened Film Society. PTI
