Earlier in March 2023, the Centre told the SC that a committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary would be constituted to explore administrative steps for addressing some concerns of same-sex couples without going into the issue of legalising their marriage.

The top court has listed the matter for hearing in August 2024. Meanwhile, interim stay will continue till the next date of hearing.
In a letter addressed to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, they criticized certain factions for trying to influence judicial processes through pressure tactics and misinformation. While not citing specific incidents, the letter coincided with heightened political tensions.
