Movie-making is not just an occupation in our country, it’s a festival. Every year, hundreds of movies are produced, among which, few leaves behind a mark like a milestone. Baahubali franchise is believed to be a milestone in Indian cinema. This epic saga of retaliation and love managed to win the hearts of almost every single person in the country. And to create such a magic on big screens, it costs a lot. Baahubali: The Beginning costed INR 180 crore while the sequel of the magnum opus, Baahubali: The Conclusion costed a whopping amount of INR 250 crore. 

But that’s not all. While Baahubali remains to be the costliest movie ever produced in Indian cinema, there are other flicks as well that costed a fortune. Have a look. 

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo 

The Sooraj Barjatya directorial venture spared no expense over cast, crew and sets to make this movie a grand affair. Salman being in good terms with Barjatya, didn’t charge anything for the movie. However, the movie cost an enormous amount of INR 175 crore to the production house. The money invested in the traditional Indian saga didn’t go in vain. It managed to bag INR 400 crore worldwide.

Dhoom 3 

It enjoyed being the most expensive movie in Indian cinema until Baahubali took away its status in 2015. The movie costed INR 175 crore and was the first Indian film to be released in the IMAX motion picture film format with Dolby Atmos surround sound. This Aamir Khan starrer film garnered INR 558 crore from domestic as well as global screens.

Dilwale 

Though the movie didn’t go very well among the movie critics, but it remains to be one of the costliest movies of all time. Made with an enormous budget of INR 165 crore, Dilwale managed to earn INR 372 crore worldwide. It did a handsome business on box office, even though the ratings weren’t that impressive. It is said to be Shah Rukh Khan’s highest grosser after Chennai Express.

Bang Bang 

The Indian answer to Tom Cruise’s famous ‘Knight and Day’, Bang Bang is one of those movies that costed way too much. It was made with a budget of INR 160 crore and mustered INR 340 crore worldwide. Despite the arrival of Happy New Year, Bang Bang managed to hold the screens for long. It crossed the 100-crore mark in just 5 days of release.

Happy New Year 

Two of the biggest ventures of Bollywood came out in the same month of October in 2014. Happy New Year was a star-studded movie with popular actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and Jackie Shroff as the cast. The film was released on 5000 screens in India which is the biggest release for a Hindi film ever. Made with a budget of 150 crore, the film managed to bag INR 343 crore in its kitty.

And if we move across the boundaries, Titanic continues to enjoy being the most expensive movie worldwide with a jaw-dropping budget of $200 million! Converting it to Indian National Rupee would fetch an amount of INR 1286 crores ONLY!
