New Delhi: The 2015 release of Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer Drishyam received good response from viewers as well as critics. While the plot intrigued viewers with the protagonist cleverly circumventing the law, it is difficult to imagine that it could inspire criminals to emulate a murder in real life.

Investigations into the murder of 25-year-old Amitabh Adivasi in Bhopal have revealed that the accused in the case may have picked a leaf out of the film. The city police found the victim's body floating in the city's Hathikeda Dam.

Investigations into the incident began when Sumitra, the wife of the deceased, lodged a missing complaint with the Ayodhya Nagar police on December 25, 2015. On Monday, the police claimed to have cracked the case with five men arrested in connection with the crime.

The main accused in the case - Indrapal Singh and his nephew Dharmendra Singh - are believed to have been heavily inspired by Ajay's role in ‘Drishyam'. According to the police, the suspected criminals admitted to have taken tips from the Bollywood suspense thriller to dispose the body.

The police took the five accused - Indrapal Singh, Dharmendra Singh and Bhagwan Singh, Vicky and Guddu alias Pradeep Kumar - into custody following a tip-off.

The accused allegedly confessed to the crime after a gruelling 16 hours of intense grilling.

In ‘Drishyam', Ajay played a businessman whose daughter murders her classmate who had secretly recorded her MMS. He then disposed the body at an under-construction building. Tabu essayed the role of the cop who was the mother of the deceased.
