Tata Motors, the homegrown automaker has revealed its new compact product, Tata Zica in the market. This hatchback is developed with the collective efforts of three design studios of Tata Motors in Pune, Turin and Coventry.

This is the 3rd new rendering from company's HorizoNext umbrella where first two were the Zest and the Bolt. The car not only looks all fresh but also seems to enhance the passenger vehicle segment. The vehicle is going to hit the market in the first half of January 2016.

So let's know what this Tata Zica is all about:

Design

Though the Zippy Zica seems to be a remembrance of the Indica from front, but the design studios from Pune, UK and Italy have really evolved the entire appearance of the car. The DesignNext credos include Diamond DLO, humanity line and slingshot line that further provide bold and sculpted looks to the vehicle.

The front turns up to be sharp in the new 3 dimensional signature honeycomb grille that runs into the smoked headlamps. However, the grille embarks to be narrower than the Zest and Bolt. At rear, new wrap around tail lamps and the immaculately designed rear spoiler can also be seen.

The side resembles Zest with multi spoke alloys, body colored door handles and prominent character lines. Other Styling elements like an aggressive hood stance and the sloping windshield are also commendable.

Driving Modes

In the ‘Zippy car', a zippy driving experience would be delivered to the passengers. All this becomes feasible with different driving modes programmed into the vehicle.

These Multi-Drive modes named, City and Eco can be selected as per the convenience and ease of the rider. This is reminiscent of Tata's other recent offerings like the Zest sedan and Bolt hatchback. The feature is one of the many segment firsts that Tata has introduced with Zica.

Power-Plants

The motor is based on the updated XO platform that comes from Indica. Tata Zica is available in both the diesel and petrol options. The 1.2 litre Revotron petrol mill is the same integrated in the Bolt and Zest and is a 3-cylinder 4 valve MPFi arrangement that produces 85 PS at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @3500rpm.

On the other hand, the 1.05 litre diesel engine is the modified form of the old 1.4 litre diesel unit from Tata only. This is a 3-cylinder motor that delivers 70PS at 4000rpm and a peak torque of 140 Nm between 1800-3000rpm. It is also expected to return 25kmpl. Both the powertrains would be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
