A suspicious movement of terrorists was observed near the forward area along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kalal belt of Nowshera sector on Tuesday. The movement was supported by firing from Pakistani troops which drew strong retaliation from the Indian Army, the official said.
Director-General of Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday called for extra vigil and strengthening of intelligence grid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the valley, amid increased attempts by Pakistan to push armed terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir.
With the safe defusal of the mortar shells by Army engineers, a tragedy has been averted in Karmara village of Poonch district, they said.
"War is a bad thing, but if Pakistan doesn't stop terrorism, our response will be stronger than what happened there yesterday," Malik said in his address at the Police Commemoration Day at Zevan in Srinagar.
During the firing and shelling by the Pakistan troops, one injured jawan, identified as Naik Subash Thapa, 25, was evacuated to the Military Command Hospital Udhampur, but later succumbed to injuries, the spokesperson said.
Punjab Police have already launched elaborate investigations to account for the weapons consignments apparently smuggled into India from across the border by the two drones recovered near the India-Pakistan border over the last around one month.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday warned the protesters not to cross th LoC, saying anyone crossing it to provide humanitarian aid or support for Kashmiris will "play into the hands of the Indian narrative."
The people participating in the rally will gather in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Their plan is to cross the LoC and reach Srinagar.
Pakistan has been trying to internationalise the Kashmir issue but India has asserted that the abrogation of Article 370 was its "internal matter". New Delhi has also asked Islamabad to accept reality and stop its anti-India rhetoric.
Taking serious note of Pakistan using Chinese drones to airdrop weapons in Punjab, the Army and BSF have sounded an all-out alert along the entire Indo-Pak border and LoC, asking boarder guarding troops and observation posts to keep a "hawk's eye" over similar air-intrusions in future.
Pakistani rangers also fired few small arm rounds along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector of Kathua, he said.
The team led by District Development Commissioner (DDC), Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad visited Deeing village and sanctioned additional underground bunkers for the safety of the local residents, an official spokesman said.

The firing from across the border started in Nowshera sector at around 6.30 am, prompting strong and effective retaliation by Indian Army guarding the border, the official said.
As tension between India and Pakistan escalates over scrapping of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad has hastily reactivated nearly a dozen terror camps in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and close to the International Border along Jammu and Kashmir.
The cross-border firing by Pakistan has ended a five-day lull in the border skirmishes between India and Pakistan Armies.
