A local court in Allahabad has directed the police to lodge an FIR against controversial Independent MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and his six associates in connection with an alleged abduction and assault on a Dalit

The order was passed by Judicial Magistrate Kanchan on an application filed by Raj Kumar, a resident of Rae Bareli, who had moved the court asking that the police be directed to lodge an FIR against Raja Bhaiya, his cousin and former Samajwadi Party MP Akshay Pratap Singh and their close aides Gulshan Yadav, Chhavi Nath Yadav, Guddu and Rohit Singh.

The petitioner had said that he had been working as a driver for the Independent MLA from Kunda in neighbouring district of Pratapgarh and had left his job in July upon the maturity of his insurance policy with a plan to start his own business with the money.

The petitioner had further alleged that the MLA, who got angry upon his decision to quit the job, got him abducted on July 26 from the outskirts of the city by his henchmen.

They brought him to a house owned by Raja Bhaiya in Civil Lines locality of the city where he was allegedly thrashed in presence of the MLA and the former MP.

The petitioner had further alleged that he was asked to hand over the money he had received through his insurance policies and that the MLA and the former MP forcibly obtained his signatures on a number of blank sheets. PTI
