    Man shot at, injured in Delhi's Dabri

    A 39-year-old man was injured after being shot at by two persons in southwest Delhi's Dabri area on Saturday, police said. The man was hospitalised and is condition is stated to be stable, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said Sandeep was along with a friend when he was shot. Two people fired at him, he said.
    Personal enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the incident, Vardhan said

    Pakistan police wrest back control of Zaman Park where ex-PM Imran Khan's residence is situated

     Authorities in Pakistan's Punjab province took complete control of the area surrounding Imran Khan's residence here on Saturday, months after the ousted prime minister's irate supporters started camping there to foil their leader's arrest in the Toshakhana corruption case.
    Punjab Police on Friday met Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to arrest "terrorists" reportedly hiding there and handed him a list of 2,200 suspects involved in the May 9 protests that targeted military installations and government buildings.

    Head constable, pregnant wife shot at in Delhi's Burari area

    A 35-year-old Delhi Police head constable and his pregnant wife were shot at in north Delhi's Burari area by two people and robbed of a mobile phone and Rs 7,000 cash, police said on Saturday.
    The incident took place around 9.45 pm on Friday when the head constable posted at the Special Cell Unit of the city police was walking with his wife from Burari to Jahangirpuri, they said.
    The couple came under attack around 150 metres from the Burari Chowk, police said, adding two people shot at the wife first and then pointed the gun towards the head constable.

    MP: Three dead after oil tanker hits motorcycle in Bhind

    Three persons were killed on Saturday after their motorcycle was hit by an oil tanker in the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, a police official said. The incident took place on Bhind-Gwalior highway number 719 near Bahua village, Mehgaon police station inspector Ravinder Sharma told PTI.
    "Three persons identified as Ajay Jatav (19), Srichand Jatav (55) and Mamta Jatav (28) died on the spot. Oil tanker driver Mahipal Lodhi, a resident of Pilbhit in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested. The truck has been confiscated," he said.

    Muslim family buying house from Hindu creates row in Rajasthan

    Posters accusing a Congress councillor of an alleged exodus of a Hindu family in the Kishanpole area here triggered a row, following which police were deployed, officials said on Saturday.
    Recently, a Hindu sold his house near Purohito Ka Chowk to a Muslim family.

    Some people put up posters alleging the "exodus of Hindu families" in Kishanpole and blamed Congress councillor Fareed Quereshi for it. DCP (North) Rashi Dogra Dudi said the property papers were checked and there was nothing illegal.

    Pakistan cabinet approves top security body's decision to try May 9 violence perpetrators in military courts

    Pakistan's cabinet has endorsed the decision by the country's top security body to hold trials by military courts of those involved in attacks on key army installations following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.
    Protestors took to the streets on May 9 after the arrest of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chairman and torched military and civilian buildings and vehicles.
    The violence left 10 persons dead and thousands injured.

    'The Kerala Story' screened at FTII amid protest by group of students

    A special screening of "The Kerala Story" was organised at the main theatre of the Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Saturday amid a protest by some students.
    Despite the heavy police force deployed at the venue, FTII Students' Association (FTIISA) staged a protest claiming the student community was not informed about the show.
    The screening, organised by MITEE Film Society, was scheduled to start at 9.30 am but it was delayed by an hour, sources said.

    Toll in West Bengal firecracker factory explosion rises to 12

    The toll in the blast at an illegal firecracker factory in West Bengal's Purba Medinipur district rose to 12 after two more persons succumbed to their injuries, a senior official said on Saturday.
    Rabindranath Maity and Pinki Maity, who had third-degree burn injuries, died at the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata where they were undergoing treatment, he said.

    15-year-old girl kidnapped, gang-raped in Gurugram

     A 15-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by two people, including a milkman she was acquainted with, who also beat her up and threatened to kill her when she tried to resist, police said here on Saturday.
    A case was registered against the accused, milkman Vinod and his friend Jasbir, under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at the Bhondsi police station on Friday based on a complaint by the minor's mother, they said.

    Houses of five Pakistan-based terrorists raided in J-K's Doda

    The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday raided the houses of five local terrorists who are currently operating from across the border and making desperate attempts to revive militancy in Doda district, a senior police officer said.
    Senior Superintendent of Police of Doda district Abdul Qayoom said the raids were conducted by the SIU in the Gandoh area in connection with a case registered against the five terrorists in 2021 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

    Drugs seized from Indian waters: NCB seeks custody of accused

    The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), which is probing the recent seizure of over 2,500 kilograms of methamphetamine from a vessel in Indian waters in a joint operation with the Navy, on Saturday moved the court seeking custody of the accused.
    The agency sought the custody of Pakistan national accused, Zubair Derakshshandeh for five days from May 22. The accused is currently under judicial custody.
    "...the court may be pleased to order production of the accused person... before this court on 22-05-2023 and grant the custody to the petitioner for custodial interrogation in the case for 5 days w.e.f 22-05-2023 to 26.05.2023," the application filed by the agency said.

    Maharashtra: Two more arrested over communal violence in Akola

    Two persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly fomenting last week's communal violence in central Maharashtra's Akola city, police said.
    It took the number of persons arrested in connection with the incidents of May 13 to 148.
    Of the two men held on Saturday morning, a 23-year-old man was the one who had lodged a complaint about an objectionable Instagram post, claiming that it hurt religious sentiments.

    Indian-origin man among gangsters held guilty of smuggling drugs to UK

     A 33-year-old Indian-origin man is among members of a drugs smuggling gang busted and convicted for their role in conspiring to supply cocaine and cannabis from the Netherlands to the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
    Joshpal Singh Kothiria was caught as part of a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation in Britain, which uncovered his role as a driver from Wolverhampton in central England who supplied the smuggled drugs to Ireland.
    He along with others was convicted at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday and will be sentenced at a later date.
