Maharashtra: BJP is planning to ban RSS, alleges Uddhav Thackeray

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray accused the BJP of plotting to ban the RSS if it wins a third term. Citing BJP President J.P. Nadda's comments on the RSS, Thackeray warned that the BJP would turn against its ideological parent.

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a 'nakli Shiv Sena' jibe at the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, party chief Uddhav Thackeray hit back. He was addressing his last rally here before the campaigning for the Lok Sabha ended in Maharashtra.

Significantly, during the rally, the former Chief Minister and the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Thackeray slammed the Bhartiya Janta Party and alleged that it is planning to ban its ideological parent, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, after winning a third term in power. He said, "The way they tried to use and throw the Shiv Sena, a similar game will be played by Narendra Modi in the future (with the RSS), and that has been stated by BJP President J. P. Nadda."

It is pertinent to note that the BJP President, in his recent comment to a newspaper on the RSS' presence within the party, mentioned that the party's structure has become stronger, and now that it runs itself, the RSS is an 'ideological front'. And using the reference to the comment, Thackeray said, "Nadda said there was a need for the RSS until now, but we are capable now, and we don't need the RSS. If the BJP came to power, it would be a bigger danger for RSS workers because they would ban the RSS," Thackeray claimed.

"Those who call our party `nakli' (fake) Shiv Sena will call the Sangh `nakli'," Thackeray added.

Further, in a stern attack, Thackeray questioned PM Modi; he said, "The entire RSS cadre toils to make you prime minister. Why are you planning to ban the RSS, which gave you birth and gave you political power?"

Meanwhile, Thackeray also took a swipe at the Election Commission, stating that "after the India alliance government comes to power, we have to send home the election commissioner who is acting like Modi's servant."

Whoever is working like the BJP regime's "servant" will be sacked, the former Maharashtra chief minister said.
