Rae Bareli (UP): A meeting of the monitoring committee of Rae Bareli, chaired by its Lok Sabha member Sonia Gandhi, today expressed concern over the Centre's failure to release Rs 61 crore under PM Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) and decided to write to seek its early disbursal.

The District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee decided to write a letter to the central government seeking release of the funds meant for Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna.

"Serious concerns were expressed that the central government has not released Rs 61 crore meant for PMGSY and a decision was taken to send a letter for the same," Chief Development Officer (CDO) Anup Kumar Srivastava said.

Earlier in May, the Committee had passed a resolution condemning the cut in funds of centrally-sponsored schemes and PMGSY for the district.

Today, it was also decided to provide fluoride free water to 1,344 bastis of the district for which a letter would be written to the central government to make Rs 1,344 crore available, the CDO said.

A decision was taken to set up stabilisers where voltage was a problem in functioning of tube wells for irrigation purposes, Srivastava said.

The Committee, which is dominated by ruling Samajwadi Party members, hailed the state government for providing its share of monetary help to farmers hit by the natural calamity, floods and hailstorm while alleging that the Centre's share was still awaited.

Surendra Vikram Singh (SP MLA) and Dinesh Pratap Singh (Cong MLC) also had a heated exchange of words when the former demanded a probe into the installation of solar lights by the Zila Panchayat.

Gandhi also unveiled the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Zila Panchayat campus and garlanded the statue of Indira Gandhi.

During interaction with Zila Panchayat, gram pradhans and BDC members, she was apprised of the shortage of power and scarcity of water in canals.

She also inspected an under-construction building of 'Jan Suvidha Kendra' at the Vikas Bhawan.
