New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged voters of 18 constituencies, spread across fours states where by-polling is underway, to come out in record numbers to cast their ballot.

 
“By-polls in various assembly seats across four states are underway. Urging voters in these seats to turnout in large numbers & cast their vote,” the Prime minister said in a tweet.
 
Polling begun for by-elections to 18 Assembly seats spread over four states i.e. Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Karnataka.
 
Out of 18 seats, ten seats are in Bihar, three each in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka and two in Punjab.
 
In Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded candidates at nine seats, while giving one seat to its alliance partner Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). The ruling Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are contesting from four seats each, whereas the Congress has fielded its candidates from two seats.
 
In Madhya Pradesh, three assembly segments going to the polls are Agar, Bahoriband and Vijay Raghavgarh.
 
In Punjab, both the seats are likely to witness a triangular contest between ruling the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
 
In Karnataka, of the three seats, the Congress holds one and the BJP two.
 
The counting of votes is slated for August 25.
