Delhi, North India witness season’s first fog; flights delayed, traffic affected

People in the Delhi-NCR region and most parts across northern India witnessed seasons’s first fog on Wednesday morning, with the visibility reduced to a considerably low level.

People in the Delhi-NCR region and most parts across northern India witnessed seasons’s first fog on Wednesday morning, with the visibility reduced to a considerably low level. 

Low visibility is reported in many areas of North India including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh with a notable drop in temperature.

Flight operations at Delhi and Lucknow airport have been affected due to poor visibility. Many flights have been delayed.

Movement of traffic has slowed down, especially on the Delhi-Noida and Delhi-Gurgaon expressways.

The Indian Meteorological Department issued a weather warning on Tuesday predicting shallow to moderate fog in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, west Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim. The fog is expected to last another six days. 

The unexpected fog on Wednesday was preceded by a very clear Tuesday with the minimum temperature recorded at 9.7 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the season.

According to Sky Met, Delhi’s Palam reported thick fog, with the visibility dropping to 400 metres between 6 am to 7 am. Several neighbourhoods, including R K Puram, Saket, AIIMS, Dhaula Kuan, East of Kailash, Noida and Faridabad, also reported similar visibility conditions.
