Visakhapatnam: An associate professor named J Apparao, working in Andhra University's Telugu Department was arrested yesterday night by Vizag rural police for illegally supplying explosive material to CPI Maoists and for having connections with the left wing extremists for the past few years.

Apparao, is a resident of Korrapalle area under G Madugula mandal in Vizag, who is a tribal activist. He was staying with his family at Andhra University's quarters in the city. Before the case got facade, his family members suspected that he was kidnapped by a group of people.

Superintendent of Police, Koyya Praveen, confirmed to a newspaper that Apparao was arrested following the intelligence reports that he had been supplying explosive material to the ultras.

The police have mentioned that they would disclose more details about the case soon.
