Korean auto major Hyundai is all set to launch Creta in its compact SUV segment on June 21.
The company's Indian arm Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), which sells top-end SUV SantaFE and i20 Active, is looking to take on Mahindra & Mahindra, Renault, Nissan Ford and Tata Motors with its upcoming 5-seater SUV.
The new launch will compete with a range of models, including Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Safari Storme, which are at a price range of Rs 6.75 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh.
Creta is expected to be priced between Rs 7.5 lakh to about Rs 11-12 lakh.
"The Creta has been designed and developed in Korea while our engineers in Hyderabad and Chennai have played an important role in customising it for the Indian conditions," Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) senior vice-president Sales and Marketing Rakesh Srivastava had told PTI.
It will be powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine capable of producing 123PS of power and 155Nm of torque, and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The diesel option of Creta could come equipped with a 1.6-litre mill producing 128PS and 260Nm, with a 6-speed gearbox. Mechanicals as a result will be shared with the Verna sedan.
Like most Hyundai car models, the Hyundai Creta might also be offered with an automatic gearbox option, possibly the 4-speeder from the Verna.
