BJP-SAD alliance sweeps Chandigarh municipal corporation polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiromani Akali Dal (BJP-SAD) alliance has scored a landslide victory in Chandigarh municipal corporation elections.

Out of 26 seats, the BJP has won/is leading on 20 seats while its ally SAD has won 1 seat. The Congress, on the other hand, has managed to win only 4 seats. One seat has gone to an independent candidate.

The Congress has lost these polls for the fourth consecutive time. The party centred its election campaign this time around the inconvenience arising out of Modi government’s ‘demonetisation’ move but the people of Chandigarh rejected them once again.

For the BJP, it is its fourth consecutive victory in civic elections after ‘demonetisation’. Before Chandigarh, the party scored impressive wins in the Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan civic body bypolls.

The BJP-SAD combine is ecstatic over its victory in Chandigarh municipal corporation polls as it comes ahead of Assembly elections scheduled to be held early next year.

Congratulating the  party workers for the splendid performance in Chandigarh municipal corporation polls, BJP President Amit Shah said that the part’s victory in both Assembly and civic polls across the country  post demonetisation shows that they are with the government on this decision.
