At least three policemen were killed and seven injured when unidentified assailants targeted a security vehicle with a roadside bomb in Peshawar on Friday , a day after a suicide attack outside a court complex claimed 19 lives amid an anti-Taliban offensive by army in Pakistan's tribal belt.

Officials said a police van on routine patrol in the area under the jurisdiction of Yaqatoot police station was attacked with a remote-controlled bomb in the wee hours today.

Two policemen died instantly while another succumbed to his injuries in hospital this morning.

Seven others were injured in the attack that occurred a day  after a suicide bomber struck a crowded court complex in Peshawar cantonment, killing 19 people, including three policemen, and injuring 50 others.

Police cordoned off the area after the blast and launched a search for the assailants.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast, the eighth attack to rock Peshawar within two weeks.

Peshawar has been hit hardest during a wave of suicide attacks and bombings across Pakistan. Nearly 120 people were killed in a car bomb attack on a busy market in Peshawar late last month.

Hundreds of people have died in a series of suicide attacks and bombings in cities across Pakistan since the military launched an operation against the Taliban in South Waziristan last month.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders imposed in Peshawar some time ago due to incidents of terrorism have been extended for a month.

District administration chief Shahibzada Anees told reporters that the display of arms and use of vehicles with tinted glasses have been banned under the orders.

A ban on pillion riding on two-wheelers will also be in force for 15 days, he said. PTI
