    Man crushed to death in Delhi footbridge lift shaft

    A 25-year-old man was killed after being crushed between a footbridge lift and the structure's wall in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar, police said on Sunday. The victim, a vagabond, had allegedly entered the building "illegally" on Saturday night by removing a panel near the lift, they said. The police suspect that the man was crushed after three college students entered the lift and it moved upwards.

    Prez Biden fully cooperating after discovery of secret documents: Ro Khanna

    US President Joe Biden is fully cooperating and has done everything that the procedures required after classified documents were found at his private office in Washington DC and his Delaware homes, Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna said on Sunday. Five additional pages of classified material have been found at Biden's family home in Delaware, the White House said on Saturday, bringing the total number of secret documents uncovered to about two dozen.

    Actor Sunil Sugadha's car attacked

    The car of Malayalam movie actor Sunil Sugadha was attacked on Sunday by some persons following an altercation over allegedly not giving right of way to another vehicle in a narrow road near here. The actor was not in the car but three other drama artistes travelling in it got injured in the minor scuffle, police said.

    Huge cache of weapons seized from terrorist hideout in J-K's Poonch

    Security forces on Sunday busted a terrorist hideout in Jammu and Kashmir's border district of Poonch, leading to the recovery of a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives, officials said. The hideout was busted during a joint operation by the police and the Army at Bahian Wali village in Surankote tehsil, they said.

    7-year-old seriously wounded in London drive-by shooting

    A drive-by shooting in central London wounded two children and four women, police said Sunday. The Metropolitan Police said officers were called Saturday afternoon to a church in the Euston area where a private memorial service was taking place. Police believe gunmen fired shotgun pellets from a moving car outside the church.

    “People came here to attend a funeral, to be with friends and loved ones and mourn together. Instead, they were the victims of a senseless act of violence,” police superintendent Jack Rowlands said.

    MP: Three killed, 47 injured after speeding bus overturns in Khargone

    Three persons were killed and 47 injured after a speeding private bus overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district on Sunday, police said. The accident occurred at Manihar village on Indore-Icchapur Highway, Badwah Police Station in-charge Jagdish Goyal said. The speeding bus overturned when its driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, killing three persons and injuring 47 others, he said.

    Of the five Indians who were feared dead in the plane crash in Nepal on Sunday, four were planning to participate in paragliding activities in the tourist hub of Pokhara, a local resident said. At least 68 people were killed when a Yeti Airlines passenger plane with 72 people onboard, including five Indians, crashed into a river gorge while landing at the newly-opened airport in central Nepal's resort city of Pokhara on Sunday, officials said. The five Indians were identified as Abhisekh Kushwaha, 25, Bishal Sharma, 22, Anil Kumar Rajbhar, 27, Sonu Jaiswal, 35, and Sanjaya Jaiswal, a Yeti Airlines official said.

    MP CM Shivraj Singh's chopper returns to take-off spot after technical glitch

    The helicopter carrying Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday landed in Manawar town of Dhar district from where it had taken off sometime back due to a technical glitch, police said. Chouhan's chopper took off from Manawar to reach Dhar in the evening but it had to fly back to (Manawar) shortly due to a technical glitch and landed, said Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Dhiraj Babbar.

    Two more hotels lean towards each other in Joshimath, cracks widen at many places

     Two more hotels were dangerously leaning towards each other while wider cracks appeared near Auli ropeway and in other areas of land subsidence-hit Joshimath on Sunday. Also, the flow of water increased from a suspected underground channel burst in JP Colony in the Marwari area of the town after a temporary decline a couple of days back.
    Muddy water has been percolating down from it constantly since January 2 but experts are not sure about its origins.

    A former Afghan female lawmaker and her bodyguard were shot dead by unknown assailants at her home in the capital, Kabul, police said Sunday. Mursal Nabizada was among the few female parliamentarians who stayed in Kabul after the Taliban seized power in August 2021. It is the first time a lawmaker from the previous administration has been killed in the city since the takeover.

    Father-son duo arrested for attempting suicide at relative's place in UP

     A man and his son were arrested for allegedly attempting suicide at a relative's house in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district, police said on Sunday. The incident took place in Ugapur market area under Aurai police station limits on Saturday evening, they said. Phool Chand Gupta is embroiled in a property dispute with his brother Virendra Gupta. Late on Saturday evening, Phool Chand and his son Kishan entered Virendra's house, opened the pipe of a cooking gas cylinder and locked themselves inside a room to frame him, said Station House Officer, Aurai police station, Gaganraj Singh.

    At least 68 people were killed when a Nepalese passenger plane with 72 people onboard, including five Indians, crashed into a river gorge while landing at the newly-opened airport in central Nepal's resort city of Pokhara on Sunday, a rescue official said. Yeti Airlines' 9N-ANC ATR-72 aircraft took off from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:33 am and crashed on the bank of the Seti River between the old airport and the new airport, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal

    Man who stabbed victim 16 times convicted of murder

    A Delhi sessions court has convicted a man charged with stabbing a person to death due to personal enmity in 2017 on the testimony of the victim's minor son. The court was hearing a case of knife attack against Bal Karan Yadav, who was accused of stabbing Khushi Ram 16 times in Okhla Phase 3. Ram was declared dead at a hospital. “The case of prosecution stands proved against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
    Hence, he is convicted for the offence under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code,” Additional Sessions Judge Sachin Sangwan said in an order last week.

    Mayawati says BSP to go it alone in assembly, LS polls; calls for return to ballot paper

    The Nepal government on Sunday formed a five-member commission of inquiry to probe the Yeti Airlines plane crash in Pokhara that killed at least 32 people. The announcement came as Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' called an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers following the crash. The plane with 72 people on board, including five Indians, crashed into the Seti River gorge while landing at the Pokhara airport.

    Maharshtra: TATA Mumbai Marathon begins from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus after two-year hiatus

    The TATA Mumbai Marathon began today from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in the city. According to reports, more than 55,000 participants took to the streets for the event which returned after two years in Mumbai. The event had to be cancelled in 2021 and 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, Jamaican sprinter and Olympic medallist Yohan Blake is the ambassador of the event.
