New Delhi:

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday departed for Israel on a five-day visit. His visit was earlier postponed due to the train accident in Amritsar during Dussehra celebrations, which claimed the lives of 59 people on Friday.

The chief minister was supposed to leave for Israel on the evening of October 19.

Singh is leading a high-level delegation and is slated to hold meetings with several Israeli ministers and top-ranking officials during his visit, said officials.

The Punjab government would sign two pacts in the fields of agriculture and water conservation with Israel.

According to the officials, the state is also interested in tapping into Israel's state-of-the-art technology and expertise in intelligence and homeland security to boost its security apparatus.

On his visit to Israel, the chief minister is accompanied by his media advisor Raveen Thukral, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Vini Mahajan, ACS Development Viswajeet Khanna and DGP Intelligence Dinkar Gupta.
