Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna, who was last seen as Sanjay Baru in Anupam Kher starrer The Accidental Prime Minister, is back in the news today. For those unaware, Sanjaya Baru was the media advisor and chief spokesperson of then PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, who courted controversy when he wrote the memoir, The Accidental Prime Minister. Latest buzz has it that Akshaye Khanna is all set to play the controversial politician Sanjay Gandhi in Ekta Kapoor’s biographical series, titled The Prince.
The ‘controversial Gandhi' Sanjay Gandhi had his political career full of storms and arguments primarily on account of his tough and brash attitude. Sanjay Gandhi was the youngest son of Indira Gandhi and Feroze Gandhi. He was born on 14th December, 1946 and is said to be his mother's favorite son. Rajiv Gandhi was Sanjay Gandhi's elder brother.
"Ekta has deputed a team to research on the political heir, who was seen as the right-hand man of mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi”, a source close to Ekta Kapoor was quoted as saying to Mid-day.
Furthermore, the source told the daily that the show would depict Akshaye Khanna as a young political scion, with an anti-hero slant. “While his controversial initiatives - including the sterilisation programme - will find a place in the story, it is yet to be determined if the Emergency period will be the focal point. The final draft will be ready by August, with the project expected to roll by January 2020. The team has initiated a dialogue with Akshaye”, the source added.
Recently, on his father Vinod Khanna's second death anniversary, Akshaye Khanna took to his social media account to remember his father. Sharing a throwback photo, the actor captioned his post, "Today is a great person, father, actor's 2nd death anniversary, we will always remember you #vinodkhanna."
Meanwhile, Akshaye Khanna will also be seen in a fil, directed by debutante Karan Kashyap. Buzz also has it that apart from playing one of the lead characters, Akshaye Khanna may also co-produce the film.
