Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday again congratulated Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati for their alliance before the general polls.

"I congratulate Mayawati ji and Akhilesh ji for forging this alliance in national interest. It was necessary in light of the situation in the country right now. Those who were slaves of British are in power right now," said Tejashwi Yadav in a joint press conference with Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow, state capital of Uttar Pradesh.

"The BJP will be defeated comprehensively in the national elections," said Yadav and added that his party will give full support to the alliance in Uttar Pradesh.

He also alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are not performing their duties honestly.

"The CBI and the ED are no longer agencies, they have now become alliance partners of BJP. Lalu ji is in jail only because Modi ji saw him as a threat," Tejashwi said.

While commenting on Congress not part of UP alliance, Tejashwi Yadav said, "Samajwadi Party and BSP are enough to beat Modi ji, the by elections are also an indication of it. You can also read Rahul ji's statement, he has said 'BJP is not going to get seats here, who is in alliance is not important'".

At the same conference former CM of UP Akhilesh Yadav alleged that Modi government ditched the people of the country.

"The Modi government has not fulfilled its promises. It has been trying to suppress us but we will not blow down under pressure," said the former CM of India's most populous state.

Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not stand a chance to come back into power in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 and will be whitewashed in politically important Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

His comments came after a meeting with Mayawati at her residence in Lucknow.

"There is atmosphere today where they want to scrap Baba Saheb's constitution and implement 'Nagpur laws'... People welcome the step taken by Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav. BJP will be whitewashed in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. They will not win even one seat in UP. The SP-BSP alliance will win all seats," ANI quoted Tejashwi as saying.

On Saturday, Mayawati and Akhilesh, in a joint press conference, announced that their respective parties have formed an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to contest the upcoming general elections. Both the parties have decided to contest on 38 seats each. However, they also informed that they will not field their candidates against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli.
