New Delhi, Nov 5: A Mexican telecommunications firm named iFone has emerged victorious in a trademark battle with Apple's iPhone, in Mexico. This would mean that the Cupertino-based Apple may have to give potential compensation to the Mexican firm.
It was in 2003 that iFone registered its trade name, four years prior to Apple launches its first iPhone. This has lead to a Mexico City court denying Apple's bid to sell its smartphone with the iPhone brand name in the country.
However, it is still not clear about the consequences of the judgement. The iPhone has been sold in Mexico since it was introduced in 2007, and the iPhone 5 was set to launch in the country.
