Ahmedabad, July 26: Former Gujarat chief minister Keshubhai Patel has revealed that  Narendra Modi had threatened to sit on fast unto death outside L K Advani's bungalow in October, 2001 if he was not made chief minister.

Writing in his blog, Patel said, it was BJP leader Advani who was instrumental in elevating Modi's stature in Gujarat.

Patel, who is leading the anti-Modi camp in Gujarat in preparation for the forthcoming state assembly polls, told a 'parivartan' rally in Surat on Tuesday that if given a chance, he would provide a better alternative.

Patel thundered: "Local hoodlums have now become power brokers in Gujarat's cities. 73 per cent of tribals and 43 per cent children are suffering from hunger and malnutrition, but the chief minister is claiming a resurgent Gujarat.

"Chain snatchers are snatching mangalsutras from women's neck in broad daylight, and police does nothing. Thousands of children have been reported missing in the last several years, and the chief minister does not have the time to meet their parents".

Keshubhai Patel is being supported by Gordhan Zadafia, chief of Mahagujarat Janata Party, former chief minister Suresh Mehta, former minister Kashiram Rana, BJP MLA Dr Kanu Kalseria and RSS pracharaks Bhaskar Damleji and Praveen Maniar.

Narendra Modi was made chief minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001, after there was a widespread outcry over poor response from the Keshubhai-led state administration in providing relief to the Gujarat eathquake victims.
