Kolkata: Thousands of victims of Saradha ponzi scheme from districts along with investors of other such companies today participated in a protest rally here demanding immediate refund of their money from the West Bengal government.

Though the march, organised by the Chit Fund Sufferers' Association, was termed non-political but several Left and Congress leaders participated in the walk that choked city roads a day after transport workers' rally turned out almost to be an unannounced strike.

Demanding exemplary punishment of ruling Trinamool Congress' leaders whose names surfaced in the CBI probe into the multi crore rupees ponzi scam, CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty, who participated in the rally, said the Association was planning more protest rallies to pressurise the state government for immediate return of the poor investors' money.

“Those ministers who are involved in this scam should be punished and the government should immediately refund the money of these 17 lakh poor investors who have been victimised in the scam,” Chakraborty said.

On Trinamool Congress women workers demonstrating outside CBI's city office against the interrogation of the party's leaders in the Saradha scam, he said “These women activists were nowhere when women in the state were tortured. They have come out when their party's top leaders are summoned by CBI.  This shows that they support the cheaters.”

Asking investors to continue with their demand for justice, CITU leader Shyamal Chakraborty said TMC supremo and state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should herself resign from her chair and admit her failure.

Congress leaders Nirbed Ray and Sikha Mitra participated in the rally.
