Salem (Tamil Nadu): In yet another tragic incident that brings out the ill-effects of social networking sites, a 21-year-old from near Salem committed suicide after she saw her semi-nude picture posted on a Facebook page.

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the girl hanged herself in her bedroom when her parents were not there.

Sullen with his daughter’s death, her father, who owns a powerloom, refused to receive her body after post-martem unless the police arrests the culprit who posted her picture on Facebook.

“I will not receive the body of my daughter unless the culprit who was responsible for my daughter’s death is arrested,” he told Deccan Chronicle.

A few hours after the suicide, her semi-nude picture disappeared from the Facebook page.

The girl, who had completed B.Sc. last year, found her semi-nude picture posted on a Facebook page last week. She immediately informed her parents about this who lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police on June 23. The police had promised her father that they would nab the culprit within 15 days.

However, on Sunday, another nude picture was found posted on Facebook and the link was sent on her phone.

“She was very disturbed by her picture. And when we went out on Monday morning, she hanged herself,” said her father.

In another bizarre revelation, the sleuths of cyber crime police actually made the girl’s father purchase a new cell phone worth Rs 2,000 for them in order to speed up the investigation.

“They got the cellphone from me and did not take proper action. And my daughter is now no more,” he said.
